Abraham als Vater interreligiöser Ökumene? Chancen und Probleme in religionspädagogischer Perspektive

This article analyzes published lesson plans on the topic of Abraham from different fields of religious education and civic education in order to identify the tendencies that are characteristic of the ways in which this topic is treated in education today. Next, the author discusses the results of this analysis in the context of interreligious education, confronting them with a number of insights and demands from the discussion on interreligious approaches in religious education. In a final step, he critically identifies a number of weaknesses that should be addressed in the future - the presentation of Abraham as a shared interreligious figure at the expense of the different views of Abraham within the different religions; the limitation to ethical aspects at the expense of Abraham's importance for the different faiths; the issue of - allegedly - neutral presentations of Abraham as a potentially controversial religious symbol; the need to relate teaching approaches to lived religion; the need to include the actual views of Abraham that are characteristic of today's children and adolescents. The author argues that religious education cannot do justice to the topic of Abraham as long as these problems have not been addressed successfully.
