Like many others, Lukas Podolski's family emigrated from Poland to Germany. When he was a child, they moved to Bergheim, a newly built, not very idyllic place, where a lot of foreigners lived. It took Lukas ages to pluck up the courage to walk on the pitch and play with the others. But as soon as the others saw how Lukas handled a ball, they all admired him and wanted to be his friends. Whenever he could, he would play football with his friends from all over the world. If possible all day long, no matter where they were. And that was going tol pay off!
