Matthias Sammer's father is a professional footballer for the East German national team. A celebrity. Matthias wants to be just like his father. Every now and then, he is allowed to watch his father play in the stadium, and then he analyzes every move of the game. He does the same in the living room, hiding underneath the table and listening in when his father's team mates are visiting. Matthias listens very closely when they discuss strategy and technique. And at night, he lies awake in his bed and sketches tactical plans with his coloured pencils. Of course, someone needs to put the plans into action, too, so Matthias often ends up with bruised knees. But so what? He wants to become a professional after all! The next day, he is ready to try again.
