Ecofeminism: Women, Culture, Nature
Buch

"During the past ten years, several journals, anthologies, and singleauthored books have been published on ecological feminism, or "ecofeminism."

Ecological feminism is the position that there are important connections between how one treats women, people of color, and the underclass on one hand and how one treats the nonhuman natural environment on the other. Of these various publications, none has provided a multidisciplinary perspective on topics in ecofeminist scholarship.
What this volume does is just that: it provides a critical examination of ecofeminism from a variety of cross-cultural and multidisciplinary perspectives. As such, it is an important addition to the literature on ecofeminism.

The book is divided into three parts.

Part I, "Taking Empirical Data Seriously," explores reallife, experiential concerns which have motivated ecofeminism as a grassroots, womeninitiated movement around the globe.

Part II, "Interdisciplinary Perspectives", presents the works of scholars in a variety of academic disciplines and vocational fields (e.g., anthropology, biology, chemical engineering, communication studies, education, environmental studies, literature, political science, recreation and leisure studies, sociology) on the application or appropriateness of ecofeminism to their research and to the people whose lives are touched by it.

Part III, "Philosophical Perspectives," provides a critical examination of ecofeminism from professional philosophers on topics which range from the expected (e.g., challenges of ecofeminist philosophy to mainstream Western thought) to the unexpected (e.g., ecofeminism and Wittgenstein and Kant).

Together these three parts provide a balanced crosscultural lens through which to begin to access the potential strengths and weaknesses of ecofeminism as a political movement and theoretical position.
